                      ABOUT ME

I am Stacey Nembhard, author of The Jamaican Linguist: I Remember When, which was written based on the many reflections of my childhood days conversations I would have with my Mommy on a daily basis. Reflections from my mother on the consequences of my misdeeds as a youngster served as a warning to my son, Bulie J, my nieces and nephew; and importantly, as the impetus for bringing about the Linguist!

As a youth with roots in rural Westmoreland, Jamaica, I was driven to set high standards for not only my family but the community at large. From volunteering for "Food For The Poor" to serving as Vice President of the PNP Youth Organization, I was successful in helping many students get a better education through scholarships from the “Social Development Committee.” The morals that formed my upbringing will forever linger, as the need for a "good education" and acquiring it has been ground breaking for me and the people that I have come in contact with. It is only fitting that I write this book not only to highlight my perseverance as a Jamaican scholar but to awake the childhood memories of every Jamaican and non-Jamaican who have been disconnected or out of tune with how exciting it was growing up in Jamaica or elsewhere to give them that hearty laugh that's been missing or adding to it.

As a graduate student of both the CSU and UC systems who wears many caps from multiple majors, I am proud to say that I am Jamaican! I am also an educator with the A.V. High School District, an active member of the West/Mid-West U.S.A Diaspora Advisory Board in Los Angeles, and a firm believer in the Jamaican adage of "Ohn Ohn Coco, Full Basket." Which means To Take “One Step at a Time.”
